Syscoin Platform Roadmap

The Syscoin Platform Roadmap is a collection of projects that originate from and are managed by different teams and individuals working together to advance and contribute to the platform, including Blockchain Foundry, Syscoin Foundation, Syscoin Development and Marketing Team, and individual community developers.

Roadmap updated: December 23rd 2020

Syscoin JS SDK

Javascript SDK to be used for wallet infrastructure.
Blockbook-based SDK similar to Web3JS but for Syscoin and Syscoin Platform Tokens.

Multi-Asset LN using Syscoin Platform Tokens

Lightning Network using SPTs and leveraging a multi-asset network. This enables global scale for instant asset/token swaps. For example, pay with any token at Point-of-Sale and it can be immediately swapped for another which the merchant desires. Can also enable an instant decentralized exchange for tokens with minimal fees and little to no slippage - a use case DeFi demands.

Accomplishing this requires us to solve the industry-wide call-option problem as described here: https://github.com/lightningnetwork/lightning-rfc/pull/72#issuecomment-613736569. Investigating use of zkSNARKs or TSS MPC solutions to solve the problem using watch towers.

Digital Identities

The basis for a broad spectrum of services, including voting systems, E-Commerce marketplaces as well as other Identity verticals like compliant payments (stablecoins working under regulatory frameworks), etc. Root digital identity infrastructure on Syscoin for network-of-networks approach to solving identity in-line with W3C - DID spec, and leveraging Aries/Indy software.

MMR + Flyclient

This tech will increase Syscoin Bridge performance and lower operating costs, all while providing more-than-ample security.

Merkle Mountain Range field included in Syscoin block header for better light-client verification. Using chainlocks and MMR in a flyclient setup for optimized light-client verification on the SysEthereum bridge. Requires BLS12-381 pre-compiles which are planned in https://eips.ethereum.org/EIPS/eip-2537.

Syscoin 4.2

Syscoin 4.2 will introduce the following features:

Network-enforced Business Rulesets that work at scale. This is useful for enterprise purposes such as opt-in regulatory pre-compliance for SPTs in a non-custodial way (helpful to stablecoins in particular), custom fee structures for tokens, and other uses.

Syscoin Platform Tokens will change to a UTXO model. Previous versions employed an account-based model like Ethereum. UTXO introduces greater efficiency and performance, and simplifies integrations and onboarding of tokens into future L2 technologies.

Improved Masternode functionality, similar to Dash’s current implementation.

Chainlocks added to further enhance Syscoin’s security

Bridging to other Blockchains

We are researching which other blockchains beyond Ethereum would be mutually beneficial to integrate with Syscoin Bridge. These bridges will likely involve ZK-SNARK’s or some other generalized proof-of-chain solution. Some cursory research is underway.

Syscoin Electrum

We are building a custom Electrum wallet to support Syscoin Platform Tokens (SPT's). This will enable you to hold all your SPT's on Ledger, Trezor or on desktop and mobile in an industry standard format. This will also allow institutional investors to integrate Syscoin into their existing investment portfolio infrastructure.

New Explorers

Our current official blockchain explorer found at http://explorer.blockchainfoundry.co/ will be deprecated to use the new Blockbook backend and Trezor Explorer front end for more accurate and faster user experience. The new site and explorercan be found at https://sys1.bcfn.ca/ - ALSO there is a new Ethereum Explorer https://eth1.bcfn.ca/

Fast Gitian

Gitian is a secure source-control oriented software distribution method. This means you can download trusted binaries that are verified by multiple builders. Bitcoin’s gitian build process creates determinstic, signed binary builds for Windows, Linux, and Mac. The process takes several hours on a standard laptop. Fast-gitian greatly increases the speed of bitcoin’s gitian build process by leveraging parallel builds and cloud machines for build times under 45min.

Blockbook

The new Blockbook backend will drastically speed up thin wallets, hardware wallets, blockchain explorers and will be the basis for a new more efficient and higher speed API which should be easier for developers to use. This requires not only building the new backend and api, but integrating into all these applications.
